I only have two links of interest today but both are excellent.
- Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, Executive Vice President Emeritus of the Orthodox Union addressed transgender issues in the Orthodox Community. As my husband put it, “It’s pretty groundbreaking. Does a great job illustrating that there are halachic issues but that they are so much an individual thing that it’s almost pointless for someone to worry about if they are not their own problems. All while focusing on the fact that all anyone else needs to do is don’t be an a-hole (he used the actual word), mind their own business, and treat people with respect. Don’t tell people their own thoughts and emotions are not valuable or credible.” Couldn’t have said this better myself.
- The Gay Child in My Daughter’s First Grade Class– this beautiful post written on the Morethodoxy blog by Maharat Rachel Kohl Finegold. This post does a fantastic job explaining how important it is for Orthodox schools and teachers to be sensitive to LGBT issues. Unfortunately this is something my family has had first hand experience with and I can’t stress how important all the thoughts in this article are.
